Bridal Spring

Bridal SpringCAROLINA HERRERA
Carolina Herrera's Spring 2008 Bridal Collection was just what you would expect from the designer--elegant and feminine. Herrera's gowns are for the classic bride who makes no apologies for wanting to look and feel like a princess on her wedding day. Ruffles, satin sashes, flowing fabrics, and trains that stopped traffic gave the collection an ethereal feel, while an element of suprise was found in black embellishments, which added an ironic touch to the white palette. Herrera paid homage to My Fair Lady with a strapless A-line gown with embroidered tulle layers and grosgrain details in black and beige. The intricate detail on a strapless floral embroidered organza ball gown with ruffles and ribbons was the perfect combination of sweetness and whimsy.

Bridal SpringVERA WANG
The Vera Wang Spring 2008 bridal collection was Vera at her finest, inspired by the genteel aesthetic of high society social register American debutantes of yesteryear, from Jackie Bouvier to Doris Duke. "It's harking back to a time when women had their own definition of glamour, style, and chic," said Wang. Gowns were super luxurious and refined, and the collection wasn't limited to bridal white: dresses in jeweled tones of rich purple and iridescent pink walked alongside the pristine cream looks. An ivory silk organza gown with a lace and embroidered tulle overskirt and ivory faille bow sash at the waist was a standout. Satin cabbage rose embellishments in forest, amethyst, crimson, and magenta added a dash of color to simple, elegant silhouettes. Overall, the collection was the perfect blend of seductive beauty and old world elegance--with a hint of mystery. "Even the venue was meant to be fairly snotty," said Wang of her show space--the Ukranian Institute on the Upper East Side.

Makeup Tips

~ ~
Here are some tips that will ensure you look picture perfect when you say "I do". When choosing your look, consider the time of day and the time of year. You need to consider your skin tones and hair colour. Remember as most of you are wearing white or ivory, your makeup need to be a little more dramatic so you do look washed out.
Your Face
Wear a tinted moisturizer if you are not used to wearing foundation. Layer translucent powder over your foundation for a long lasting effect and to help prevent shine. For a healthy glow, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, then lightly sweep your forehead, nose and chin. Don't use a shimmer highlighter as your pictures will get a reflective shine.

Your Eyes
Lash out use fake eyelashes for eyes that really stand out. Mac makes a half set that accents your eyes but doesn't overdo it. Use soft, neutral tones for your eyes, with no heavy, dark liner but won't be out of date later. Never skip mascara. A couple of coats of mascara define your eyes, making those photo opportunities perfect.

Your Lips
Use soft, neutral tones for your lips. Use a lip liner then same colour as your lipstick. The colour of your lips (warm or cool) depends on the colour palette you choose. If you want the focus to be on your eyes, use a lighter lip colour. Dot a bit of gold eye shadow in the center of your lips and cover with gloss for a golden look.
Fragrance
All day long, making your fragrance last: Apply to several of your body's 16 pulse points. Layer it with body lotion and/or perfumed soap to make it last longer. fragrance rises so dab some behind your knees too. Apply fragrance only once.

Bride Fashion

~ ~
Your wedding gown is unique. Beside baptism and graduation, marriage is one of the great celebrations of a woman's life. It truly is the one and only time in your life in which you'll be in your glory as the bride.

Throughout history, women have tried to make their wedding gown special to suit the occasion and to make the beautiful bride even lovelier to look at.
To this end, designers use silk, velvet, satin, lace and fabrics woven with gold and silver. Additionally, many of todays gowns have sequins, pearls, rhinestones and other gems that glitter and sparkle in the light.

Bride Fashion
This season, gowns come in white, ivory and gold, as well as a variety of colours or coloured embroidery. Choosing your gown is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your wedding. Make sure you get exactly what you have been dreaming of.
Trendy Textured Fabrics
The trend has moved swiftly to texture fabrics. Look for dresses with ruffles, lace, flowers, shredded tulle, satin, sleek, strapless, sparkles with ribbons.
30s Sleek
Silky fabrics with smooth lines and plunging low backs bring us wonderful memories of the jazz age.
Retro Chic Taffeta
A favourite fabric choice for bridal gowns, which are then cut and stitched into a dramatic style.
Etheral Chiffon
Sheer capped sleeves, edged with sequins and sparkle that reflects its class and quality.
Timeless Strapless
Exceedingly popular now, but with an A-line skirt and shaped fabric.
Sassy Sparkles
For the bride that wants to be the centre of attention, with sequins and crystals set the scene with glamour and drama.
Romantic Lace
Soft, cascading lace flowers that will sweep gracefully down the aisle.
Retro Ruffles
Bouquets of lace give this wedding gown traditional elegance tempered with modern flare.
Talk of the Town Tulle
Crisply layered to perfection, this is a gown to enhance your individual style.
Classic Satin
Show off your best asset and choose a dress with a stunning, attentiongrabbing back in silk satin.

THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING

Love to say I dreamed up this array of holiday cheer myself but I lifted it off one of my favorite sites, The Perfect Palette. They ran this about a month back and if you missed out on it, now's your chance to share this winter wedding with all the ice- white beauty of falling snowflakes and bare tree branches, candy canes and hot cocoa.

COUTURE REPORT: RISING NECKLINES

Recently hitched, Ivanka Trump wore a refined Grace Kellyesque custom creation by Vera Wang. This has spun off a new interest in the traditional gown designed with a higher neckline and addition of sleeves. Truth is designers typically have a couple gowns in the collection every season with the traditional bride in mind. When an icon like Ivanka makes an entrance we sit up and really take notice of those classics, especially if the gown is as well executed as the one she wore.

This board features an image by my favorite photographer, Chris Nicholls.I found this lovely combination of beautiful things on Style Circle, a treasure trove of ideas. Titled, 'A Pinch of Blue' there's just enough to add a little something--that kind of something found in old French paintings . . .

You may be thinking New Years Eve or even what you're going to wear to all those shimmering events. This set off Polyvore really struck me in the sense it has all that glitters as well as cool green/blue pastels that look great in cold weather.

The pink lovely on the upper right is from Carol Hannah's The Wedding Collection . Using a versatile fabric like jersey with cutting edge applications, this Project Runway participant has found a cure for the ever rampant 'It's a Bridesmaid Dress' epidemic . Her philosophy on bridesmaid dresses rings so true. Let's see if you agree, "Let's be honest here- the word bridesmaid doesn't usually invoke the most beautiful image. These dresses are usually overpriced, low quality (what about weddings says "polyester please"?), and something that your friends would probably never choose to wear in the first place. "

I couldn't have said it more precisely. Jersey may just be that perfect fabric we've all been looking for for the bridesmaid. Not to mention how comfortable it is to wear and how well it travels. If you think about it, a high quality jersey can go to a formal hoop-la as well as casual get together. Put on your flat sandals and head to a chi chi beach restaurant for dinner some night. Or out to an afternoon art reception. Where would you wear the above dress after the big day? Curious about your answers . . .

shoes

It's hard to believe once upon a time fashion police enforced the one type of shoe you could wear on your wedding day: closed toe pumps in white or ivory peau satin. Rarely did brides step out of this defined code unless they were brazen or had something to do with Hollywood. Don't get me wrong, closed toe satin pumps are still elegant as you can see in the photos above. So are the taupey-tinted ankle- strapped sandals and metallica peeps. The point here is, you've got choices, baby. Rejoice!
